Bill asked:

Airsoft is a very popular game and lots of people are getting interested in this game. It can be called a hobby or a sport. Airsoft is a game with replica firearms, and the participants eliminate each other by shooting non-metallic pellets from these replica firearms like guns and rifles. These replicas are made from plastic and only the external size and shape are like the real firearms. Airsoft games are becoming popular sport in US, UK and Europe.

The Airsoft guns, which are replicas of real guns, shoot small plastic balls at velicity ranging from 30 to 260 m/s. You should be above 18 years if you are interested in buying a Airsoft gun and these guns come with an orange tip, which should not be removed. People enjoy playing the game ‘Airsoft’ with these Airsoft guns, which are safe and harmless, but it should be handled properly and not be misused. These guns are also called BB guns or Pellet Guns.

An Airsoft Gun can be operated by gas, spring or electric motor. Depending on the quality and the type of Airsoft guns, there is variation in prices. Spring operated Airsoft guns are less in price compared to gas operated Airsoft guns.A Spring Airsoft Gun is readily available and less expensive. They are manually operated and therefore cannot be automatic and semi automatic. Before you fire a shot you have to reload by re-cocking the spring. You can use it anytime as these guns don’t depend on battery or gas.

Another type of Airsoft gun is the Electric Airsoft Gun. These guns are powered by an electric motor. A rechargeable battery is used to power this motor, which makes the gun shoot the pellets. Originally developed in Japan, these guns can shoot around 750 rounds per minute, fully automatically. They are widely used in competitions as they need not be recharged very often.

The third type of Airsoft gun is the Gas Airsoft Gun. Gases like HFC-134a or Green gas are used to operate these guns. When shooting, the slide moves back and forth, and there is a gas chamber where the gas is re-loaded after several shots. These guns can be fully automatic or semi-automatic.

Airsoft Pistols and Airsoft Rifles are used in Airsoft games and this game offers relaxation and lot of thrill away from your routine life and work. If you are interested in playing the game, you can get yourself an Airsoft Sniper Rifle, for distance firing, with accuracy. They are available in the price range you want and in different camouflage colors to suit the terrain.

Another interesting game is the racing game with radio control vehicles. Many people consider it as a hobby. Children nowadays prefer and demand for RC toys like RC cars and RC trucks. RC vehicles are vehicles that are operated and controlled by radio signals from hand-held transmitters. The RC helicopter comes in four types; electric, gas, nitro and petrol/gas. The RC airplanes are also very interesting. If you like water sports get a RC boat and during winter, you can get a RC hovercraft to race on the snow or ice. The RC buggie is also a very versatile vehicle.

The guns used in airsoft and paintball are quite different; Airsoft guns and rifles, whether gas, electric or sniper rifles or spring guns, are popular as they are highly realistic replicas of military guns and a relatively cheaper option. The main difference between the types of gun is that paintball guns have a hopper that the paintballs are poured into, whereas airsoft guns use clips. Clips make loading and unloading a straightforward process and the extra clips are light to carry. In paintball a belt or vest is necessary to hold the big cylinders of paintballs.

Start up packages for Airsoft or Paintball are around the same price, however, further costs are incurred when purchasing ammunition and carrying out any maintenance and repairs to the guns. Taken as a whole, Airsoft guns work out less expensive as Airsoft pellets are a lot cheaper to produce than paintballs are and the ammunition used makes the guns less liable to ‘jam.’ The biggest outlay is the purchase of the Airsoft gun, after this initial cost everything extra is relatively cheap.

Airsoft guns have a longer range than paintball guns with most shooting between 250fps to 600fps, an Airsoft pellet will also travel a lot further than a paintball pellet will.

Ammunition used in games is paintballs and 6mm BBs in airsoft games. Games can be played in woods/forests or in an open area, if the area is wooded the paintballs can have a problem reaching their target as the trees and bushes stop their progress and can even break them. Airsoft pellets are much smaller and the likelihood of them hitting something in the way is less probable.

Airsoft guns are more accurate than paintballs, so games are concluded faster as targets are hit. Players can also easily avoid paintballs, if they see it coming in beforehand it’s quite easy to move out of its way, whereas Airsoft pellets are too small to see when they are traveling at a high speed and would be very difficult to avoid.

Airsoft guns are much easier to maneuver with as they are lightweight and easy to hold, whilst paintball guns tend to be large and unwieldy with external CO2 and N2 or compressed air cylinders. Also, the hopper can occasionally get in the way.

Paintball guns need to be oiled, regularly cleaned and refilled each time you want to play. If you own a gas airsoft gun it will also need refilling each time you play, but electric and spring airsoft guns require no gas at all. Both types of guns will require regular maintenance to ensure they stay in good working condition. Although a simple process, paintball guns will need the barrel cleaned on a regular basis and they do have more parts than airsoft guns proving more costly to fix.

Both Paintball and Airsoft Guns each have their individual advantages and disadvantages. How the gun looks, costs, speed and effectiveness will all contribute towards the final decision you make.

The collecting and use of airsoft guns is becoming a more popular hobby each and every day. These guns offer a high speed extreme hobby that’s enjoyed by thousands of people all over the world – with more getting hooked all the time. You can take part in backyard target shooting (also known as plinking) using old tin cans or even custom made airsoft targets. You’re not just limited to firing airsoft plastic bbs however. Your airsoft gun can also be filled with airsoft paintball pellets so you can take paintball to the next level – going full auto with replica assault rifles and handguns.

One note of warning – never get involved in any type of airsoft wargame unless you’re wearing proper eye protection. This is true of paintball and equally true of airsoft.

An airsoft gun fires a plastic bb at speeds of anywhere from 180 feet per second to well over 300 feet per second. The actual speed will depend on the type of firing system your gun has; with gas and spring generally being the most powerful. Being hit by one of these bbs on exposed skin at these speeds definitely hurts and at close enough range can be powerful enough to leave quite a nasty bruise. I’ve been shot with a gas powered Desert Eagle from a range of about 25 feet. The pellet hit me in the upper body through a t-shirt but still left a large bruise and it really, really hurt when it hit me. If that same bb had hit me in the eye there’s a strong chance it would have blinded me. The lack of care and protection in this situation could have cost me part of my eyesight.

Airsoft guns are classed as toys but the speed they fire bbs at puts them in the category of toys requiring supervision and caution. Even if you’re firing your airsoft gun indoors you still need to take proper precautions and wear protective glasses. BBs can ricochet around a room very quickly and you’ll never see them coming back at you until it’s too late.

Does wearing safety glasses or a protective mask take away from the freedom people see in airsoft as a hobby? Some people feel it does. If you look at it another way by wearing proper protective eyewear you can engage in the most intense airsoft battles imaginable without having to worry about any serious injury.

So how much does protecting your eyesight cost? From as little as $10 you can make sure you can enjoy airsoft to the full. Surely your eyesight is worth $10? Right?

Anyone who’s owned an airsoft gun or plans on owning one has probably heard the cautionary tales of airsoft guns. These are the tales of eye damage and permanent blindness caused by airsoft pellets hitting people in the face and lack of protective eyewear. It’s ok though because all of these stories are just urban legends right? Wrong! If you use airsoft guns and don’t take the proper precautions then you could quite easily wind up with a serious eye injury. Using an airsoft gun whilst taking the proper precautions will ensure that your airsoft experience be completely safe.

There are some simple steps to ensure a safe airsoft shooting experience. Firstly make sure that there are no people or animals in the immediate area. Also remember that even if you aren’t shooting directly at anyone that airsoft bbs don’t always wind up landing where you expect them to. Airsoft bbs are too light to pierce many objects and will often ricochet back in your general direction or that of the peope watching you shoot. You won’t see an airsoft bb coming at you travelling at over 150 feet per second until it’s far too late.

Always wear some form of eye protection when using an airsoft gun – be it in your backyard or in an organized airsoft war game. A stray bb could come flying at your face at any moment so you need to be prepared. Also if you’re playing competition airsoft wargames do not take your mask off during active play. They can fog up and be uncomfortable to wear but never, ever remove your mask or goggles during play. Even during planning time another players gun could misfire and injuries can result. Be aware!

If, for whatever, reason do you become injured by an airsoft bb then you should contact your doctor or local emergency room immediately. Leaving an eye injury untreated isn’t an option and further damage can result from lack of treatment.

One major word of warning. Do not, under any circumstances, allow a child to use an airsoft gun unsupervised. There have been cases where children have been killed because the airsoft bb travelled through a childs eye and into their brain. Please avoid this type of tragedy by making sure your kids never use an airsoft gun without your strict parental or guardian guidance.

Justin Kander asked:

Airsoft guns are frequently used to train soldiers and officers in the army and in law enforcement (respectively). Why is this? Well, airsoft guns are very similar to real guns used by these personnel, and in many cases, the size ratio and even weight ratio is 1:1. Also, the devices function very closely to how real guns operate, at least, at a superficial level. Of course when it comes down to internal functioning, a real gun will have the proper pins and such in order to ignite gunpowder inside ammunition, while airsoft guns have no shells and are projected by a spring or gas. And unlike what many people may have told you, it’s the outside that counts (at least, in airsoft).

One of the main reasons airsoft guns are so attractive in militaristic simulations is, besides the realism, the simple fact that you can actually use them to fight. All you can do with a real gun is target shoot or, at most, fire blanks at people, but nothing that comes close to real. Personnel can actually engage in realistic military operations with airsoft guns, and perform maneuvers that they may well do in actual combat. The training is very efficient because of the size and weight ratios, and the fact that, with the use of the appropriate airsoft guns, the training feels like a real battle.

The alternative to airsoft guns, paintball guns, have also been used in training. The problem with using paintball guns is that it is much harder to feel like it is real. There are many reasons for this, the most being that the gun doesn’t feel real. You have a large CO2 container bulging out from the back, and a hopper right in your face. Another important thing is that clips are not used in paintball, except for occasionally being incorporated into paintball pistols. Pouring paintballs into a hopper does not feel realistic at all. In airsoft, you reload clips like you would with a real gun. On to the size of the ammunition; airsoft pellets are closer to the size of bullets, while paintballs are big, and in many cases you can see them coming. It is definitely harder to see plastic BBs, especially when they are dark.

Military simulations utilize airsoft guns more than law enforcement simulations, as police officers do not regularly use machine guns. While many cops may use the products for recreational use, they are not regularly sanctioned for training. The statistics for airsoft use within SWAT is most likely higher than that of regular police officers, but it is certain that the military incorporate airsoft guns more than any other agency.

The fact that airsoft is becoming so involved with the military is one of the reasons that airsoft guns are becoming more advanced. It is no secret that there are certain flaws with airsoft guns, and “airsoft scientists”, so to speak, are thinking up ways to make airsoft guns more realistic, save for the deadliness.

Having some airsoft grenades during an airsoft game can make any game more realistic. After all, today’s battles don’t just consist of exchange of bullets. Bombs and mines are now used in battle fields. Whether they are used for concealing an attack or protecting a base, airsoft grenades will come in handy in any game.

Of course, lethal explosives are not allowed in airsoft games. Since airsoft games are simulations of military situations, players are allowed to use replicas of grenades, grenade launchers, mines and claymores that do not contain any explosives. Green gas and citric acid are usually used to power these weapons. Smoke grenades can also be used during the game. Unseen, they would be able to run over their opponents without ease. Some airsoft games allow the use of small explosives. The players use small replicas of grenades that spew out pellets, resembling the shrapnel of a fragmentation grenade. Flashbangs are also used in these sites. These devices produce bright lights and loud sounds that can distract the opponents, disorienting them.

With the evolution of different materials, we now have tougher grenades made of rocket star burst shell cases. These grenades can be thrown further than the first airsoft grenades that were invented. Smoke grenades that produce less toxic smoke have also entered the market. With such improvements, having the experiencing of using these devices can give you a more action-packed and exhilarating game.

Homemade Airsoft Grenades

Getting an airsoft grenade doesn’t have to be costly. Although there are many types of airsoft grenades available in the market, one can easily make one from daily items that could easily be bought from the supermarket.

Party Hard Airsoft Grenades

Airsoft grenades can be made from a box of party snappers, a paper towel, a handful of airsoft BB’s and some tape. Just rip of the paper from the paper snappers and put the popper rocks at the center of the paper towel. Put the BB’s around the popper rocks, making sure that they don’t mix. Then, pick up the four corners of the paper towel and twisting it at the stem and putting a tape around it in order to seal it. In order to trigger this grenade, just throw it to the ground. It will pop and give opponents a big surprise.

Make the Easter Bunny Run for His Life

Airsoft grenades can also be created from a plastic Easter egg, some Wolf Pack Phantom Firewrorks, a pointy item and some BB balls. Just drill a hole through the egg, making sure that the firework fuse can fit through it. When the firework is placed inside the egg, the fuse should stick out of it through the hole. Fill up the egg with a bunch of BB’s and use the duct tape to seal it.

With so many options to choose from, acquiring an airsoft grenade doesn’t have to be difficult or costly. Airsoft grenades can easily be made at home or ordered online. And, they will definitely add a little spice to the game.

In automatic guns, you won’t have to cock the gun after every shot.

Here are some top automatic BB guns in the today’s market are described in detail:

Beretta 93R Machine Pistol: According to many people, it is a star amongst automatic BB guns.
