Jron C. Magcale asked:

Magic tricks can be a bit harder than it looks, well, let me rephrase, that magic tricks can be really harder than it looks. Although magicians makes it look effortlessly, when you are the one on the performing end you’ll see that it is really more than just the tricks, other factors in as well. When you are mastering the art of magic you are practicing the art of deception, well you are trying to make things work at the same time you are making your audience believe what you want them to believe and then poof, the deception has been made. Mission accomplished. I think that is just one of the things that you need to learn when learning magic tricks, part of it is performing a show and part of it is protecting your cover.

Well a lot of it really focuses on how you are going to maintain your composure when performing on a show. Magic tricks can be executed perfectly but you can still make mistake if you can have a good performance on not letting people know what you just did on a particular trick. It has been something that people are trying to figure out. I think that in reality magic tricks can be really, really hard to perform let alone execute with precision. So, I think when watching magic tricks you must have a certain amount of respect to them for putting a great show because it really can be hard but it is all up to you to believe it or not.

Izrul Fizal asked:

There are many reasons why people want to do magic. Some people want the applause; others want to see the look of wonder on the faces of those in the audience. And then there are those people who merely want to have fun. One of the best ways to astound your friends and family is with mental magic tricks. These tricks are fun to learn and amazing to perform. Every magician even a beginner should have a collection of mental magic tricks ready to impress an audience.

From Your Mind to Their Mind

Mental magic tricks mostly involve staying one step ahead of your audience. With most magic tricks, scientific principles are used. However, mental magic tricks use more of a math foundation, specifically the laws of probability and statistics. When you understand how you can predict your audience’s response to certain questions, you will be able to master many mental magic tricks.

1) Pick a Card

You have heard magicians tell their audience: Pick a card, any card. Here is a unique twist. Have your audience member think of a card. You will be able to tell them the card by reading their mind. While this may sound like an impossibility mental magic tricks are done in a very possible way.

In this trick, the magician relies on the fact that most people will think of the Ace of Spades, the Queen of Hearts, the Six of Clubs or the Nine of Diamonds. Before facing your audience, pull these four cards out of the deck and put them in different pockets.

Be sure to remember which card went in what pocket. Your audience will be truly astounded when you pull their card out of your pocket. Mental magic tricks like this one are based on the probability of people choosing certain cards. With that said, this trick will also work most of the time.

2) Pick a Number

There are many mental magic tricks involving numbers. Try this one. Ask an audience member to pick a number between 50 and 100. The number must be even and have different digits. The usual answer will be 68. Once again, the idea is to be one thought ahead of your audience. Research indicates that 68 is the number most likely to be selected.

3) Pick Another Card

Fan out several cards before an audience member and ask them to select a card. The cards should be face cards with a Four of Hearts in the center. Most people will pick the Four of Hearts because it’s different and in the middle.

All of these mental magic tricks so far use math probabilities to succeed. Keep in mind that while they may work most of the time, they may not work all the time. In that case, be ready to improvise. Magicians understand that their own performance is the key to successful magic. If a trick should fail to proceed as planned, don’t let the audience know. Stay confident and in control at all times.

4) Bending a Coin

Mental magic tricks don not always use probability. With this trick, the minds of the magician and the audience member appear to work together to get an unusual result.

Ask someone for a coin and then palm it in your hand. Have a bent coin ready in that same hand. Tell the person you will place the coin in their hand and together you will bend it. Slip the bent coin in their hand and close their fist around it. Tell the person to concentrate on the coin and when their hand opens, there is the proof!

Jron C. Magcale asked:

First, you need to check regularly to make sure there is nothing preventing the connector inside the D’Lite from making contact with the battery, it is pretty much important because it will determine if the D’Lite will work. If the D’Lite is in your pocket, you have to make sure it is not crushed in any way, as your D’Lite may be activated without you being aware. Next thing is you have to own a D’Lite video which will be a great new way to learn skills using DLite magic tricks. After that you now need to practice your motions in front of a mirror, try not to use your D’Lite under bright light, always remember that out need to test it in dim light.

When using the D’lite, you always have to try to keep your tricks like the grabbing from the air and of course the passing from hand to hand notions as natural as possible, it is important that you make your shows as real as possible to capture your audience in awe. When making magic tricks using the D’Lite it is imperative that you always keep the D’Lite shielded from your spectator’s view by nit showing your open palms, especially with your hands not moving. The main trick is you always need to be ready when you are on stage there are a lot of things that you can learn from the D’lite, you just need to make ends meet and do a good show.

Remember that when you trying to perform on a show, when you opt to use the D’Lite magic, you need to be careful although known to be a good props it has its limits like it can be use using water but not salt water. You should read the manual to see its limitation and how you will use the D’Lite to your shows. Don’t be scared to use it and take advantage of its uses. You will surely enjoy D’Lite magic tricks and your audience will be enjoying it as well.

Jron Magcale

http://magichutonline.com

Edward Jellard asked:

Table hopping is a form of close-up magic where the magician moves from table to table (typically in a restaurant), performing magic. This provides valuable exposure for the magician, and improves the reputation of the restaurant.

I am often asked by youngsters how old they should be before they start table-hopping. My career as a table hopper started a few days after my final GCSE exam (English exams at the age of 16). I would say that you should be at least 16yrs (even then, I felt quite young for the job) – the older you are the more likely the audience are to respect you, and the easier it is for you to “keep them in control”. Hopefully being younger can work in your favour as the audience may make allowances for being young, so are less likely to try to trip you up. Sadly some audiences see this as a vulnerability and an opportunity to make themselves look better by showing to you that they know better! You should certainly feel confident with what you do, and with your skills in ‘managing people’.

I found it very useful to subtlety let the tables know that I was employed by the restaurant – it is useful to wear a name badge (if you aren’t in “costume”) – that way the tables are likely to let you do magic for them without thinking they have to tip you, or that you are begging!

Timing is a very important factor in table hopping. It is essential to time your visit to the individual tables – if you arrive just before the waiter/waitress arrives with their meal, your visit will be cut short abruptly – nobody wants you around then! I found that arriving shortly after their main course was cleared away worked well, or around “coffees”. Of course, it will depend on your location – you will soon see what suits each place.

Another question I’m often asked is what rate to charge. There is no hard and fast rule – it again depends on the type of location, your experience and how often you are going there (it is often worth charging a lot less for a regular place to ensure a long life-span there.) If it is just a one-off special occasion, then remember you are providing a very unique service, so you should be able to charge a fair amount.

I found it very useful to get audible appreciation from the tables (i.e. laughing or clapping) – it often makes other tables inquisitive and eager to see you!

Finally, should you do the same tricks to each table, or different tricks to them all? This obviously depends on how many tricks you can do with a limited number of props that all fit in your pockets! If you repeat the same routine to every table, future tables may have already seen your tricks, so will be less entertained, and more likely to figure out how they’re done. If you change your routine for each table, then you may find your audience is much larger than the one table, so you have to be very careful about viewing angles. If you can manage this, it is generally more impressive for the audience, and for the restaurant managers who see a “good quality magician”. It also prevents you from getting into a monotonous routine, which is likely to make your act less exciting after you’ve done it 50 times that night!

Good luck!

Subin Han asked:

If you want to learn magic tricks the easy way, no magician worth his salt will teach you. It is their bread and butter. But you can learn magic tricks and all about how famous magicians perform their now famous tricks in a master mentalism guide.

You can be privy to some very closely guarded secrets that no magician would like being disclosed. They had paid a fortune to learn all about the magic secrets from gurus. And the gurus have now decided to let the secrets be known to all. You would know about magic mentalism that is frequently confused with supernatural powers whenever any magician performs a feat that cannot be explained.

It is easy to learn if you take recourse to a guide that tells it all and also goes about instructing you with a step by step approach. You can learn magic tricks the way a 12 year old can also learn. The very basis of all inexplicable feats is mastering mentalism. It is about reading the mind of the people to whom you would be showing the magic secrets.

As the steps are easy to follow, they are easier to perform after you practice them. To give you a feel of the magic world, there are interviews with famous magicians like David Blaine and Chris Angel who talk in length about their craft. Street magic David Blaine and Chris Angel and the secrets could be yours for very little money compared to the fortune paid by magicians to learn the art and craft from gurus.

In a full 200 pages guide you can learn about spoon bending, levitation, remote viewing, card tricks, hypnotism, mind reading, mentalism and street magic. Street magic is impromptu magic that can be performed at the drop of a hat and even in front of a small room full of people.

And to cap it all, you can also be privy to the secret of David Copperfield’s disappearance of the Statue of Liberty. Magic tricks of the sort performed by pros can be performed by you.

Avril Harper asked:

Tricks in ready supply, from wholesalers or on dropship can be listed ‘Buy It Now’ on eBay at just a few pounds profit apiece and still make cumulatively very good profits. The secret is to buy a few tricks individually from wholesalers or dropshippers (preferably wholesalers because you’ll get a discount on bulk buys later) and test the money making potential of those items. You should estimate price potential by auctioning your test products over a few different auctions (regular and Buy It Now), then check what prices are achieved and how many Second Chance Offers are possible.

Having finished testing, you then need to decide whether to stick to auction format or use ‘Buy It Now’ coupled with multiple product listings. You can check what other magic tricks sellers are doing for the same or similar products by sorting through eBay’s magic trick categories. Tricks old and new usually go under ‘Collectibles > Fantasy / Myth / Magic > Trick’ in both the USA and the UK. Note that ‘Collectibles’ USA style (the correct spelling), is spelled ‘Collectables’ on ebay.co.uk. Check out current and completed listings to get a feel for starting prices, listing types, finishing results from tricks similar to those you propose selling.

MORE TRICKS TO HELP YOU MAKE MONEY FROM MAGIC ON EBAY

* Once you have a winning product, at auction or ‘Buy It Now’, keep listing that product every seven or ten days and always in your shop, and begin buying in bulk from wholesalers where the more you buy the bigger the discounts usually become. Be sure always to buy in sufficient quantity to fulfill sales for a few weeks ahead based on orders placed in recent weeks.

* Be very careful and do not overstock on any product you sell which is not your own creation or otherwise available only from you. This is because, once you have a winning product, you’ll find copycats arriving to take advantage of all your hard work and that might mean a drop in your market share. Note, however, copycats rarely prosper, they don’t like hard work, and many are short lived and not a major threat to experienced eBay sellers like you and me.

* Be on constant lookout for new tricks to test and estimate profit potential. Continuously add to your range of tricks and aim to sell hundreds, better still thousands of low to high profit tricks every month, as do eBay shop owners like: Troll and Toad (24,891 magic related listings), Hocus Jokus (4,994 magic listings), Phat Dog Magic (555 Listings), Magic by Mail (396 items). Troll and Toad, for example, sold over 5,000 magic items last month, at prices ranging from 1 cent (almost certainly to grow a mailing list for back end and outside of eBay selling) to several thousand dollars for rare antique magic books and games. Of thousands of items on sale, Troll and Toad have just 37 auction listings, a good indication of the power of using just a few standard auction listings to drive traffic from eBay’s main listings to the seller’s eBay store. All those shop listed items cost around one quarter the price of individual auction listings, meaning low overheads and higher unit profits per sale. But there’s a problem for eBayers using mainly shop listings as the next paragraph shows.

* Except for eBayers choosing higher price shop subscriptions or generating traffic themselves to their shop listings, shop listed products are disregarded by eBay’s search engines, especially for high demand items with countless eager sellers. This means if someone keys words into eBay’s search facility to describe products similar to those you are selling in an eBay shop, it’s very unlikely your listings will show in eBay’s search results which overwhelmingly favour auction listings. This makes it a very good idea to always have a few auction listings each week and to use those listings to direct traffic to your eBay Shop. In doing so, you will find some people visiting your auction listings will find their own way into your shop. But that’s hitty-missy and definitely not recommended. Far better to be creative and use auction listings not just to sell your product but most importantly to attract buyers to your shop.

* Be sure to use words in your titles that potential buyers actually use to locate products such as you are selling. Otherwise all your listings will go unnoticed. Mistakes and oversights are easy as I found while researching this feature for which I subsequently found the answer in an article I’ve included later, by Sally Neill.

I had thought everyone would consider ‘magic’ the most important word in the title for any magic trick selling on eBay, which in the majority of cases it was. But having researched ‘magic trick’, I began looking for specific tricks, using coins and playing cards, for example, and I spotted a great many listed as ‘coin trick’, ‘card trick’, ‘card sleight of hand’, without ‘magic’ in the title. Anyone looking for ‘coin magic’ as I would have done would not see hundreds of titles missing that vital word ‘magic’.

It transpired that ‘magic’ is a popular keyword and, I found that coin and card tricks, for example, with ‘magic’ in the title sold on average twice as well as listings without ‘magic’. There are other words, also, used in your title, that determine whether your listing will respond – or not – to eBay’s search engines.

For more information about popular and prolific keywords and phrases used to find magic tricks on eBay, go to eBay’s Pulse Pages where you’ll find lots of information to help you choose the most appropriate category and words to describe and list your products.

These are the most frequently used key words and phrases used in the UK to find magic tricks:

magic tricks

magic the gathering (an incredibly popular and profitable computer game, not much connected with magic tricks)

magic cards

magic illusion

magic dvd

magic set

magic kit

stage magic

magic coins

magic stuff

magic illusions

magic trading cards

Eliza Maledevic asked:

Most of us are already been fooled by someone and it really a bad experience when that thing happens to us. But there are those that are somehow a good one and entertaining. And it is really fun being fooled watching magic tricks.

Trick, this word can be good or bad depending on how you will describe it. You can be trick by your friend playing around with your girl or you can be trick by an individual that somehow amazes you with the magic he performed.

Magic trick a good trick that most people loved to watch. A lot of viewers look too amaze and others are curious how this guys performs such trick without being caught. Well, if you are the magician that is the thing that you should take care of.

Almost all magic tricks are hard to learn, knowing that you can be caught by someone if you haven’t performed it well. And in fairness to all magician out there, you guys rock fooling us with your magic tricks. But sad to say there are things that you can hide to us and to those people who are curious about this then its time to have at least a glimpse how magician prepare to fool us in front of the stage.

In preparing for a magic show, before a magician enter and show up to the crowd, he already set his mind that what he will do will make us believe in magic. But prior to his performance, there are series of practice needed to do to perfect a single trick that will last for about 5 to 10 minutes, but usually it can be done in a minute. Of course magician need to give put some intense to his audience and put some nerve to most of his viewers.

But above all audience should be entertained and have a sense of surprise and amazement. They should learn how to communicate with their audience and somehow make them involve to the show. This is where a good performance is being grade. It doesn’t matter how hard or complicated the magic is, what is important is to put some intense to the audience and surprise them with unexpected results but behind the performance is just a simple trick that if discovered it will spoil the suspense and fun.

Magic trick is a trick that everyone will really loves, and so this magician who perform in a big crowd started learning magic with simple tricks and learn more complicated tricks until mastering each of them and established a name in the field of magic show.

Nathan Pennington asked:

Let’s talk about cool magic tricks. You want to know what I think is cool? Burning things up. Let me give you the picture. Let’s say that someone writes a secret down. Then they burn it up. Right in front of you, in an ashtray or something.

They burn it up, and then after it has turned to black ash, you tell them the secret that they wrote down.

Let me ask just one question. Does that qualify in the category of cool magic tricks?

Yeah, I thought so…

So, want to know how to do it? No problem… I will reveal it here for you.

You need some kind of a gimmick to get a hold of the paper. Obviously, you have to read it (or you couldn’t reveal it). Your gimmick is a deck of cards. You have the person write the secret down. Then you have them hand it to you. You have folded piece of paper in you hand hidden by the cards.

You put it next to the other folded paper. Then as an after thought, pull out the blank paper and use it to motion towards an ashtray or something like that. Tell them to burn it. As they are busy burning it, let you hands drop down. Read the note and then put it your pocket.

After the paper has been burnt up, let the person select several cards. Turn them face up and just make up stuff about how the cards relate to the person and how it predicts their future. After the last card has been “read”, look at them hard. Slowly say what was written on the slip of paper.

Wow!

Drikus Botha asked:

Kids magic tricks can help children tremendously in building their self-confidence. When getting started there are a few rules to remember when performing them. Here are 10 things a true magician must always remember.

Never tell anyone how a trick is done Practise each trick over and over again until you can do it perfectly without mistake every time. Keep your audience directly in front of you. Don’t let them sit beside or behind you Don’t repeat a trick in front of the same audience. They are only trying to figure out how the trick works Don’t tell your audience what you are going to do. It is better to let anticipation and suspense build as you perform your trick. You can however talk to your audience while performing your trick because this will help distract them. Use expressions and gestures to enhance your act. For example, you can frown to show you are concentrating hard, or stand still without speaking to gain your audience’s attention. Make absolutely sure all your props are in perfect working order and look good – no scruffy wands or hats. Once you have learned a trick and can perform it, you can alter it. This can be great fun! Practise and perfect the story you tell while performing each trick – it’s what makes you different from another person who performs the same one. Perform against a dark background under a good light.

Whether you just want to have fun with your kids magic tricks or become a master magician it is very important to know that being able to do this tricks enable you to play with people’s minds. Use it in a positive way.

Sunil Tanna asked:

Many people enjoy seeing magic tricks and shows. Of course, whether we see the Statue of Liberty being made to disappear, a magician appearing to fly through the air, or a woman apparently being sawn in half, we all know such illusions are not real but simply tricks – but that does not lessen our pleasure. That is because part of the fun comes from apparently seeing the impossible happen – and perhaps trying to figure out the trick behind illusion.

One thing that is worth remembering is that while spectacular illusions and magic tricks can catch the media’s attention and grab headlines, even much simpler tricks can bring people a lot of pleasure. How did the mentalist know what number you were think of? How can did the magician perform that card trick? What happened to the plastic ball under the cup? We have all seen these types of tricks, performed with simple props (or in some cases without props at all) – but if you don’t know how the trick is performed, have nevertheless found them intriguing or even fascinating.

Not everybody is cut out to be, or even wants to be, a professional magician, but that even for non-professionals, there’s still a lot of fun to be gained from learning a few magic tricks. If you learn how to do a few tricks, you might be surprised at how much them can liven up family events and parties.

One of the best ways of learning magic, is to look online. There are quite a number of web sites that teach magic, and many of these have been very carefully prepared, in some cases by professional magicians. These web sites contain detailed instructions for a wide variety of tricks, and in many cases also contain photos or videos.
